Quality & Manufacturing
Local engineering support backed by CMI’s manufacturing operations
Successful manufacturing programs require clear technical communication, documented quality systems, and a practical path from design review through production.
Flex Circuit Solutions (FCS) is CMI’s exclusive North American commercial and engineering interface. We work with customers on design and DFM reviews, material and stack-up decisions, quoting, qualification planning, and program coordination. CMI provides the manufacturing, inspection, and testing resources for each customer program.

Manufacturing Scale & Global Support
Established in 1980 and publicly listed in Taiwan (stock code: 6835), CMI brings decades of interconnect manufacturing experience to flex circuit, rigid-flex circuit, and wire harness programs.
CMI’s manufacturing operations in Kunshan, China, and Thailand span more than 830,000 square feet of combined building space: approximately 215,000 square feet for circuit operations in Kunshan, 108,000 square feet for wire harness operations in Kunshan, and 508,000 square feet at its Thailand facility.
CMI’s Taiwan headquarters provides sales, engineering, and corporate support. With approximately 800 employees, CMI has the people and infrastructure to support programs from development through volume production.
Manufacturing Quality Systems
CMI’s manufacturing operations hold certifications for the facilities and activities listed below. Click each certification name to view its certificate, including the legal entity, site, scope, and validity dates.
Kunshan operations
ISO 9001 — Flex circuit quality management.
ISO 13485 — Medical flex circuit quality management.
IATF 16949 — Automotive flex circuit quality management.
ISO 45001 — Occupational health and safety.
IECQ QC 080000 — Hazardous substance management.
Thailand operations
CMI Thailand is also working toward ISO 13485 and IATF 16949 certification. We will add those certificates when they are issued.
Inspection, Testing & Validation
CMI’s in-house resources support evaluation throughout development and production. Documented capabilities include automated electrical open/short testing, optical inspection, cross-section analysis, X-ray inspection, solderability testing, peel and shear testing, surface resistance measurement, bending tests, thermal shock, and temperature and humidity cycling.
For applicable high-frequency and signal-integrity programs, CMI also has vector network analyzer (VNA) and time-domain reflectometry (TDR) resources. Additional methods, including HAST, FTIR, and SEM/EDS, can be coordinated through external test providers when required.
The inspection plan, test conditions, acceptance criteria, and reporting requirements are defined for each customer program.
Automated Manufacturing Processes
CMI uses automated equipment in selected flexible circuit fabrication steps, including stiffener and polyimide film placement, pressure-sensitive adhesive film punching and placement, precision punching, laser direct imaging, and electrical open/short testing.
For programs that call for circuit assembly, CMI also has solder paste printing, solder paste inspection, component placement, optical inspection, X-ray inspection, and reflow resources. FCS can coordinate those requirements with customers and their contract manufacturing partners. The process route depends on the construction and program requirements.
UL Recognized Flex and Rigid-Flex Constructions
CMI holds UL Recognition under file E215894 for a range of flexible printed wiring constructions, including single-layer flex, multilayer flex, and rigid-flex options. The approved constructions cover specific material combinations, soldering conditions, temperature ratings, and flammability classifications.
For programs with UL requirements, FCS and CMI can review the proposed stack-up against the approved constructions. If a required construction is not currently covered, we can work with the customer to pursue UL approval for that construction as part of the program plan.
